Sustainable Living

In order to promote sustainable practices for future generations, we aim to provide them with firsthand experiences on our campus and encourage integration of those practices into their daily lives. Our values lead to various ecological practices, which were gathered from different characteristics of cultures, are at the same time included in the lesson and school club plans.

Students are encouraged to question their consumption habits and determine them correctly. They are supported in their projects on issues such as avoiding excessive consumption, waste reduction and waste conversion. The importance of avoiding unnecessary consumption and not harming the environment while meeting the basic needs for our survival is emphasized.

At our school, students learn about sustainable agriculture through hands-on practical experience. Through this experience, students learn to plant and grow crops in the right season and make it a habit to consume or use them without wasting. Their interaction with endemic plant species grown on our campus, learning when to collect and where to use these plants are examples of how our students put the philosophy of sustainable life into practice.

As an example of waste-free exercises, they learn about the Kocayemiş (Strawberry Tree) plant, which is endemic to Beykoz district where or campus is located, observe it growing up, pick the fruits, and use the excess of the collected products for vinegar-making. Another exercise that our students lead is to take action to have the olives grow on our campus ready for consumption by the school community after getting them collected. Our students witness the transformation of wheat, a staple food with many varieties grown in Turkey, into food used mainly in daily consumption.

Integrating sustainable living in education and into students' lifestyles allows them to grow up as environmentally sensitive individuals who think and care about the well-being of future generations.
